About me
From outside, my life looked fine.
I had a nice job, I spent time with my family, my days were going like they were supposed to. Nothing was wrong.
But inside, I was fading.
For a couple of months I wasn't caring for myself enough, and my confidence dropped little by little each day. It became a loop: the less I cared for myself, the worse I felt about how I looked, and the worse I felt, the less I cared.
I'd see old photos and think: where is this person? Why is she not here? How can I bring her back?
My days were bland and I thought that was just my new default. I thought this was simply how life felt now.
I had moments of awareness. I knew something wasn't working. I wanted to change. I just didn't know what.
Then, one New Year's Eve in Rome, I put on a beautiful dress.
My friend told me how beautiful I looked. I turned to the mirror, and for the first time in a very, very long time, I felt beautiful.
That night I understood something.
What I was wearing changed how I was feeling about myself.
I came back home from Rome inspired to make this my change for the new year. No more functional “home“ clothing, I will only wear clothing that makes me feel good.
There was just one problem. In retail stores I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, and top of that, most clothing contained plastic that I did not want to wear because of health reasons.
So, I decided to take care of this matter myself.
I was determined to create clothing I can wear at home that make me feel like the dress I had in Rome.
On a February Tuesday night, with the company of my mom and grandma, I went to buy a sewing machine with one intention.
I will sew my dream closet with the materials that are healthy for my body.
There was a fun anecdote with the saleswoman. She started explaining the functions of the machine we were looking at, and I suddenly stopped her. I smiled and said: "You don't have to keep selling this to me. I'll take it."
My first project was a nightgown from a pattern I bought from someone else. I didn't feel confident enough to start without guidance. The pattern came with a video tutorial and a detailed PDF, so I felt safe the whole way through.
I took my time and with a couple of trial and errors, I finished it in a week.
When I put it on, it felt magical. I felt like a whole new world of possibilities opened up to me.
Several months later, I have multiple pieces I've created for myself.
It's a process, but I feel more confident in my day to day, and I aim to have only clothing that sparks joy in my closet. <3
And here's where you come in.
If you're ready to create a piece that makes you feel beautiful, I welcome you to join me on this sewing project.
P.S.
Sewing was my starting point to reconnect with myself, but it's not the only way.
My life didn't change overnight. Along the way I discovered many little things I do to care for myself, and I'm documenting my process on my YouTube channel and Substack.
Feel free to take a look!
Sending you plenty of love!
